China targets space photovoltaics in 2026-30 electronics plan
(SpaceEnergy) China’s industry and economic-planning ministries have directed development of space photovoltaics and supporting perovskite tandem, high-reliability module, semiconductor and energy-electronics technologies under a national 2026-30 manufacturing plan.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and National Development and Reform Commission issued the Electronic Information Manufacturing Industry Development 15th Five-Year Plan on 10 September. An official provincial government publication of the document was posted on 15 September.
The plan calls for breakthroughs in advanced photovoltaics including perovskite tandem cells, alongside industrialisation, high-reliability module packaging, intelligent photovoltaic modules and development of supporting materials including perovskites, polyolefin elastomers and high-purity quartz sand. It explicitly identifies space photovoltaics as an application area to be expanded.
China also plans to develop high-energy battery materials and high-specific-energy solid-state batteries, advanced power semiconductors and power-management chips. The document separately calls for a full-chain build-out of space computing, deeper integration of computing and electricity supply, and radiation-resistant chips, inter-satellite laser communications and onboard computing platforms.
The plan sets a 2030 target for annual revenue at larger electronic-information manufacturers to exceed CNY30 trillion and says industrial-chain security should improve across sectors including integrated circuits, advanced computing and energy electronics.
