Hongqing tests argon propulsion and flexible solar wing
(SpaceEnergy) Chinese commercial satellite developer Hongqing Technology has begun in-orbit testing of an argon electric propulsion system and a large flexible solar array aboard its Honghu-03 technology satellite.
Honghu-03, also known as Xiong’an-1, reached orbit on 19 August aboard LandSpace’s Zhuque-3 Y2 rocket. Telemetry was normal following the launch, according to a Hebei Daily report, republished on the official China Xiong’an website.
Hongqing project manager Zheng Shuqiang told Hebei Daily that the 541-kilogram spacecraft integrates three internally developed systems: the Jinwu propulsion system, Chiyu energy system and Baize electronics system.
According to Zheng, the satellite will conduct in-orbit verification of more than 10 technologies, including an argon-propellant electric propulsion system and commercial-grade gallium nitride power devices under space operating conditions.
