Katalyst details refuelling system for NEXUS-1 servicer
(SpaceEnergy) US in-space servicing company Katalyst Space Technologies has detailed a fuel- and interface-agnostic modular refuelling capability for its NEXUS-1 spacecraft.
Material published for the Small Satellite Conference says NEXUS-1 will combine energy-dense propulsion with modular refuelling hardware to support sustained manoeuvring from low Earth orbit through geostationary and beyond-geostationary regimes.
The ESPA-Grande-class servicer is designed to inspect, refuel, upgrade, reposition, extend the life of and deorbit spacecraft, including satellites that were not originally prepared for servicing.
Katalyst’s conference material specifically identifies a fuel- and interface-agnostic architecture, expanding on previously disclosed plans for NEXUS-1 to provide refuelling and life-extension services.
Katalyst previously announced that NEXUS-1 will launch aboard Ariane 6 to geostationary transfer orbit in the second half of 2027. Its first servicing operations are planned for US Government customers before commercial missions.
