Roman telescope completes first trajectory-correction burn
(SpaceEnergy) NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope has completed its first mid-course correction burn, beginning the spacecraft's propulsion manoeuvres towards its planned orbit around the second Lagrange point.
The approximately three-minute burn began at 12:02 p.m. EDT on 31 August and adjusted Roman's trajectory towards its final orbit.
NASA said the manoeuvre was the first of two planned trajectory corrections. A second burn, if required, is planned for later this week.
Roman's orbital insertion is scheduled for about 100 days after launch. Once operating around the second Lagrange point, the telescope is expected to conduct periodic station-keeping burns roughly every 28 days.
