(SpaceEnergy) US propulsion manufacturer Ursa Major has opened a new Longmont, Colorado, manufacturing facility to expand production of in-space propulsion systems and avionics.

The company said the site can accommodate more than 125 employees and includes welding and manufacturing laboratories, an ISO 7 clean room, ISO 8 gowning room and environmental test laboratory.

Moving in-space propulsion and avionics work to Longmont will also free manufacturing space at Ursa Major’s Berthoud, Colorado, headquarters for liquid rocket engines, vehicle integration and solid rocket motors.

Chief executive Chris Spagnoletti said demand for the company’s in-space propulsion systems was driving the expansion.

The new plant follows an earlier expansion completed in March that increased Ursa Major’s machining, additive manufacturing and solid rocket motor test capacity.
