Yank wins Space Force contract for orbital wireless power
(SpaceEnergy) Yank Technologies says it has won a US Space Force contract to develop wireless power transfer for recharging satellites and other orbital assets during servicing missions.
The Brooklyn, New York-based wireless power developer said SpaceWERX awarded it a Small Business Innovation Research Phase I contract covering wireless charging between spacecraft in orbit. The contract value was not disclosed.
Yank said its system uses resonant inductive wireless power technology designed to maintain efficient electricity transfer despite changes in spacecraft position and electrical load.
The company said the approach could allow spacecraft to transfer power without precise mechanical mating, potentially supporting satellite recharging and extending operational lifetimes during future on-orbit servicing missions.
Yank has previously developed wireless power technologies for lunar surface applications under NASA contracts, but the new SpaceWERX award specifically targets power transfer between orbital assets.
The company release states that its description of the programme does not necessarily represent official US government policy or positions.
