Flexell Space and Satoro agree two orbital solar-cell demonstrations

(SpaceEnergy) South Korea's Flexell Space has agreed with Singapore-based Satoro to conduct two orbital demonstrations of next-generation spacecraft solar cells, scheduled for 2027 and 2028, the company announced on 28 October.

Under the agreement, Satoro will manufacture the demonstration satellites and provide satellite-as-a-service support, while Flexell Space will supply the solar cells and test modules.

Both missions are planned to launch aboard SpaceX Falcon 9 rockets, with one demonstration scheduled for 2027 and the second for 2028.

The programme will evaluate the electrical output, reliability and performance of Flexell Space's solar-cell technology under actual orbital conditions.

Engineers will compare measurements obtained in space with ground-test results and monitor changes in performance over time. The resulting data will support further design improvements and assessments by prospective commercial customers.

Flexell Space is developing solar cells based on copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) and perovskite materials. The company aims to commercialise lightweight, lower-cost solar-power solutions for satellites and other space infrastructure.

Flexell Space said it had previously conducted two space demonstration missions through launches aboard South Korea's KSLV-II rocket in November 2025 and October 2026.
