US electronics maker ESI Motion to supply solar-array controls for Lockheed satellites
(SpaceEnergy) US spacecraft electronics manufacturer ESI Motion is supplying solar-array drive electronics to Lockheed Martin for satellite programmes under the Space Development Agency's Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture, it announced on 28 October.
The California-based company said its equipment incorporates the space-rated SuperNova and Pulsar motor controllers, both of which have previous flight heritage.
Solar-array drive electronics control the motors that position spacecraft solar panels towards the Sun, helping maintain electrical power generation as satellites move through orbit.
The equipment will support Lockheed Martin's work on the Space Development Agency's Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA), a US military satellite network intended to provide secure communications, missile tracking and other space-based capabilities.
ESI Motion confirmed that it is supplying the electronics under an agreement with Lockheed Martin but did not disclose the contract value, number of systems, delivery timetable or specific satellite production batches.
